THE WORST POP BAND EVER (2006-PRESENT):
Original jazz blending aggressive improvisation with pop sensibilities.

THE LOVE ORCHESTRA (1998-Present)
All-purpose band of varying line-ups designed to explore any genre from jazz, to pop, to traditional folk music. Corporate/Special Events group

JAZZ FOR JUNIORS (2000–Present)
An educational program that tours Toronto elementary schools, teaching children about jazz music and history. Created with consultation from the Toronto District School Board.

THE POLITE SCIENCE (aka EBB) (2005 – Present)
Groove and atmospherics trapped in a contemporary jazz guitar trio.
Members: Kevin Barrett (gtr), Drew Birston (bs), Tim Shia (dr)
Aside from being an instrumental trio, has been the rhythm section for numerous artists including Julie Michels, Richard Underhill, Amanda Martinez, Dee Kaye Ibomeka, Christopher Plock and Julie Crochetiere.
LOVE MECHANIQUES (2006-Present)
Deconstructionist group with modern jazz intentions.
Members: Dafydd Hughes (kys), Chris Banks/Wes Neal (bs), Evan Shaw (sx), Geordie Haley (gtr), Tim Shia (dr), guest turntablist: Leo Shia
Formed as part of a commission to provide live music for the screening of the film, Sometimes Things Go Wrong (Howie Shia) at The Distillery Jazz Festival; performed at Array Music, and the Reverb as part of AIM Toronto’s Leftover Daylight Series; and at Circa for the Canadian Institute for the Blind with In Essence.

The music of Wayne Shorter played by people other than Wayne Shorter.
